Chinese Language and Cultural Studies in Beijing and Hangzhou

Immerse yourself in Chinese Language and Cultural Studies this summer.

Reading periods: June 24 – August 1, 2014 
Beijing: August 15 - 21, 2014
Hangzhou: August 21 - September 13, 2014

Join Western faculty in an intensive study of Chinese language and culture in Beijing and Hangzhou, China. Improve your language skills and advance your cultural competence further than you could accomplish in regular classroom teaching. Students must have at least one year of Chinese language in order to participate.

Program Details

Join Western faculty in an intensive study of Chinese language and culture in Beijing and Hangzhou, China. Improve your language skills and advance your cultural competence further than you could accomplish in regular classroom teaching.

Program highlights:

Instructor

Dr. Janet Xing is a Professor of Chinese and Linguistics at Western Washington University. She has over two decades of experience in teaching Chinese and linguistic courses and developing/directing Chinese language programs and study abroad programs. In addition, she has also organized national/international conferences/workshops and served as the President (2012) and the Board of Director (2009-2013) of the national Chinese Language Teachers Association.

Xing’s research interests are in Chinese language pedagogy, historical linguistics and discourse analysis. Her recent publication includes the Newest Trends in the Study of Grammaticalization and Lexicalization (Mouton de Gruyter 2012) and A Contrastive Model of Teaching Chinese to Native English Speakers (Peking University Press 2011).
