The EdAbroad office has created a mixture of virtual and in-person resources to guide your students to prepare for study abroad.

Why WWU students should study abroad?

Supporting study abroad isn’t just about travel—it’s about student success. Research shows that students who participate in international programs are more likely to graduate and thrive in their careers. These experiences build critical skills—adaptability, cultural competence, and problem-solving—that employers demand. By encouraging study abroad, faculty and staff play a vital role in improving retention, deepening academic engagement, and preparing WWU graduates to lead in an interconnected world.

How can you support WWU students to go abroad?

Faculty and staff are key partners in ensuring study abroad is visible, supported, and understood as part of a student’s academic pathway. By affirming the academic value of international coursework, internships, and research, you help normalize study abroad as compatible with timely degree completion. You can support students by mentioning study abroad as an option in coursework or conversations, reinforcing its relevance to academic and career goals, supporting curricular alignment where appropriate, and referring students early to Education Abroad for planning and advising.

Approved Programs

The EdAbroad office maintains a comprehensive catalog of programs around the world. We vet these programs for their cost, the on-site support they offer students, coursework, safety and security, and more. If a WWU student wants to participate in a program that is not included in our catalog, they must submit a petition. This ensures we are able to verify that the student can get credit and vet the program for a variety of factors we have found essential to a student having a positive experience abroad.
