Special Topics in Oviedo

This program features two courses taught by University of Oregon’s history department faculty member, Carlos Aguirre, during the first half of the program. The two courses will be “Nationalism, War, and Revolution: Spain and Cuba from 1800 to the Present” and “Soccer and Nationalism in Spain and Spanish America.” The course work will be complemented by two excursions to Covadonga and Madrid as well as local tours of key Oviedo historical locations that will bring the course content to life. The second half of the program will be an intensive Spanish language course taught at the University of Oviedo in the Casa de las Lenguas (ELE). In-class learning is complemented by field trips, guided visits to local sites of interest and other group activities that are included in the program fee.

GEO program fees cover tuition, housing and breakfast, excursions, course materials, and on-site orientation. Insurance and a 24-hour emergency service are also included. For information on scholarship funding, please visit the Scholarships & Aid page on our website.
