I have studied abroad twice with CIEE. Once in high school, I spent a semester in Sevilla, Spain, with their traditional host family and academic program. Then, during my first year at Western, I participated in their open campus program while studying abroad with them in Rome, London, and Copenhagen. I'm a public health major with a minor in international studies. Studying global health abroad helped me better grasp the field and broaden my perspective. Overall, it was a learning and formative experience for personal development. From September 2019 to January 2020, I spent a semester studying Spanish abroad in Sevilla, Spain. I found that learning Spanish outside of high school helped me grasp the subject in ways that I couldn't have learned in a classroom alone, and it changed the way I looked at the subject in general. Going overseas for high school allowed me to develop my Spanish and interpersonal, empathetic, and analytical skills.
