Description

We want Western Washington University students to know they can still participate on a field studies program with Wildlands Studies this fall quarter.

We are actively accepting applications for our remote, outdoor, environmental study programs in California, Colorado and Florida. Further, our Fall 2020 USA-based programs are offered at a $1000 discount and provide students with applied field research techniques, access to local scientists, wildlife monitoring, biological assessments, camping, hiking and backpacking.

Monitoring Remote Habitats: California

Dates: September 14-October 28, 2020

Credits: 15 quarter

Topics: Desert ecology in Death Valley, backpack the PCT, volcanic phenomena in Lassen, migratory birds in Mono Basin, restoration efforts throughout the Klamath River watershed, the rugged redwood-lined Lost Coast.

Wildlife in Peril: Colorado

Dates: September 22-November 4, 2020

Credits: 15 quarter

Topics: Lynx habitat and restoration in San Juan National Forest, captive breeding of the black-footed ferret, Upper Colorado River Endangered Fish Program, spotted owl surveys, tribal relations in Mesa Verde National Park.

Panthers, Everglades and 10,000 Islands: Florida

Dates: October 17-November 30, 2020

Credits: 15 quarter

Topics: Wetlands biodiversity; coral reefs, springs, and streams; ecological restoration in the Everglades; critically endangered Florida Panther and West Indian Manatee; canoe 10,000 Islands; climate change and rising seas.

Programs will be limited to 12 students with 2-3 faculty, and follow state and CDC guidelines for personal protection equipment and hygiene practices. Our Amended Refund Policy safeguards payments until close to departure.
